Now that my first set of lights has burned out, time to buy another.

Rage, what were the two brands that you have?  We talked about them but I can't remember the names...

Anyone else have recommendations a good set of lights for night trail riding?

I have a couple of NiteRider Trail Rats, 10W halogen. You can find these pretty cheap these days. Also have a Dinotte 5W LED which I recommend. With different light sources, it's of limited use comparing wattage; lumens is a better indicator of performance. I don't have the comparison data between these two, but seat-of-the-pants sez the Dinotte is better - lighter, brighter, longer bat life, std AA batteries.  Can't remember where I bought it, but am sure I spent under $150.

You should also check out the Princeton Tec Switchback series, they have 1-2 or 3 light models with a 2hr charge and very long run times.

and by the way the are in stock at Healthy Habits, www.healthyhabitsqc.com

i agree with rage. i love my dinotte 5w luxeon led. i have two (one for helmet and one for handlebar) but usually just use the helmet only. the main reason i bought it was for the rechargeable AA NiMH batteries--very easy and inexpensive to replace or upgrade. it comes with rechargeable batteries and charger. long runtime. i carry extra batteries but never had to replace them on a ride.

i've used niterider dual and single beam which were nice but expensive (batteries just too expensive to replace when they finally died)

a nice inexpensive halogen is the planet bike alias--get the helmet mount! great light but i sold it after i got my dinotte

if you want the light to be as bright as daylight, get HID--ultraexpensive/ultrabright. but then it's no longer night riding in my opinion.

if anyone wants to try to rig up your own battery pack, i still have my old niteriders.

the dinotte's on sale for $150 with extra 15% off it's down to $127

planet bike alias handlebar light incl. 15% off is now $76

planet bike has a cool interactive tool that shows photos of beam pattern and distance of their different lights (it's a nice guide of different levels of lights and how bright they are)
