We’re just days away now! Here is the most current route, although route creation can be finicky so I’ll list a couple caveats and addition notes in the comments, as well as convenient store locations on route. It will get fairly warm so be sure to have a plan to hydrate and fuel. Both SAG vehicles will have multiple large water jugs and extra gatorades to keep you going, but there is a chance as the day progresses we won’t be able to cover everyone as they spread out.

We will have HyVee sandwiches at the Sunderbruch SAG. Bring some cash to chip in if you plan on eating.

    See you all soon!

2024 Duro Route GPS Track via Strava

    Notes:
    - Sylvan Island can be tough to navigate, so try to stay with a group at least until that point of the day. If you find yourself without an experience Sylvan racer, either ride two laps of the marked route, which is roughly 2 miles each, or choose your own adventure until you have 4 miles under your belt.
    - Cross river at Arsenal bridge, centennial can be used as a backup if the dam is allowing barge traffic or its otherwise closed
    - There is a very brief section of construction on the bike path between Sunderbruch and Dog Park, which can be biked around
    - There is a much longer stretch of construction after that, which you will need to follow the route detour signs to get around.
    - The Eldridge Rail Trail should be ridden starting at Lincoln and 1st St to the south first, counterclockwise, then follow the one lane singletrack until the trail ends
    - Enter Scott County Part at the top of Tarmac, located on 270th beyond the normal park entrance. This is on the route but we are forced to avoid the very start of this trail due to construction.
    - Because of that construction, DIRTO riders will need to park at the main trailhead at Pride Lake and ride up the pavement to this entry point
-There is road construction on the way to Dewitt at the Wapsi river bridge on Old highway 61. It may say it's closed but it's easily passable as of today

The SAG vehicles will be a grey Nissan Frontier and a Blue Dodge Ram. We will point them out the morning of the event.

    Location of SAGs:

    • Illiniwek: North loop trailhead
    • Sylvan Island: Trailhead (no SAG at Stephens)
    • Sunderbruch: Main parking lot
    • Dog Park: along Marquette
    • Eldridge Rail Trail: at Lincoln and 1st, north of barn (owner gets grumpy if you park south of barn)
    • Scott County Park: Main trailhead at Pride Lake (can be accessed after the south loop is finished, or the whole lap). I will also set a couple cases of water at the Tarmac entry point
    • Westbrook Park: Main lot

We will have two SAG vehicles with water, snacks tools and first aid. The later in the day we get, the more likely it will be that we are too spread out to cover everyone, so also be aware of convienient stores along the route:

    • Git N Go after Sylvan 44th st and 4th ave in rock island (.1mi off route)
    • Shell station near centennial park in Davenport, just after crossing the river. On Myrtle and river drive (.2mi off route)
    • Shell station on locust st and Emeis Park ave. in Davenport, between Sunderbruch and Dog Park (on route)
    • Caseys on Division and 53rd in Davenport, between Dog Park and ERT (on route)
    • BP on 4th and LeClaire in Eldridge, after ERT (.25mi east of route)
    • Casey’s on scott part rd and 267th just before Scott County (on route)
    • Dewitt Travel Mart 6th st (aka scott park rd) just past highway 30 as you enter Dewitt.

If you have to bail from the ride please let someone know who can relay the message to one of the SAG vehicles or message them directly via phone (contact #s will be provided at check-in).

  • Sylvan Island Shelter Project

The shelter is finished! This project hasn't been without it's complicaitons, but it is finally done! Thanks again to everyone who made it possible!

FORC invites the Quad Cities community to the grand opening of the Sylvan Island Shelter. The 20’ x 24’ Poligon Shelter has been completed and looks beautiful in its location on the island near the information kiosk. It stands in tribute to FORC and its founder Rick Wren and his wife Joan.

The pavilion will be a great gathering space for visitors to the island and serves as a lasting tribute to the Friends of Off Road Cycling and what our club of volunteers has brought to the Quad Cities outdoor community. This project has been a lengthy endeavor and would not have been possible without the generosity of so many supporters. We are so lucky to have had our Quad Cities community rally around our efforts to build the shelter. FORC would like to express our gratitude to Moline Parks and Recreation, Moline Regional Community Foundation for their substantial donation of $10,000, Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, QC1 Research, Century Electric, Port Byron Great River Tug Fest, Quad Cities Trail & Ultra Runners, Endurance Tribe, RYMAK Construction and to all our FORC supporters for the individual contributions we’ve received during our racing events and other activities.

Please join FORC on Thursday, July 11, 2:00pm to help us pay tribute to the Wrens and say Thank you to all who made this beautiful Pavilion possible. FORC will also be gathering again on Saturday, July 13, 1:00pm with a picnic and ride on the island with FORC Presidents, FORC OGs, FORC members and all others who wish to join us for the celebration. FORC is looking forward to celebrating with you!

  • Trail Etiquette Refresh

    Trail ettiquite tips incoming.

    Trail Ettiquite Refresher

With the explosion of new riders on the trails, it's probably a good idea for a refresher PSA on trail etiquette.

    • Only ride open trails. Trails close when muddy and sometimes for user safety issues or special events. Check the trail status app for the latest local trail conditions.
    • Leave no trace. Stay on the trail: don't shortcut features or switchbacks and don't modify features without permission. If you can't ride it, walk it. Land managers don't appreciate braided trails and closing them takes time away from other projects our trail builders want to accomplish. Pack out trash and pickup some more on the way out.
    • Stay in control. Ride within your ability and slow down for corners with low visibility (expect someone on the other side). Don't skid! Skidding tears up the trail and makes the trail builders sad. It also makes you look like a newb.
    • Yield appropriately. Be courteous to other trail users by letting them know your presence. Follow trail signs for travel direction if they exist. Follow existing traffic laws when on roads (yes they apply to bikes too).
    • Don't scare animals. Equestrians share some of the trails we ride and horses can be startled easily. Approach cautiously and ask the horse rider for guidance if planning to pass.
    • Be prepared & self sufficient. Give your gear a quick check before each ride and bring the necessary tools for common mechanical problems (tube, pump, multi-tool, zip ties, etc.) Don't forget a snack & water for longer rides. Be aware of the weather.

    Important Winter Trail Information

Winter weather is here and local trails will be experiencing freeze thaw cycles. This means conditions will be unsuitable for riding (as well as foot traffic) until the ground freezes solid and daytime temperatures stay well below freezing. Click here to learn more.

  • Night Riding

When the days get shorter and weekday riding opportunities fade, some riders opt to strap on lights and hit the trails after dark. Below are the current policies of local parks regarding night riding and after dark trail closures.

    • Sunderbruch: Night riding is allowed at all hours. Park in the lot outside the main gates to avoid getting locked in!
    • Stephen's Park: Night riding is allowed. Park is open until 11pm.
    • Illiniwek: Night riding is allowed until 10pm. Be off the trails and out of the park by 10pm.
    • Dorrance: Night riding is allowed until 10pm. Be off the trails and out of the park by 10pm.
    • Scott County Park: For the month of October, SCP is allowing night riding. Riders must be off the trails and out of the park by 9:30pm.
    • Westbrook Park: Night riding is not allowed unless officially recognized by the park. Trails open dawn to dusk.
