What year is it? If you bought it new for the moment get it warrantied, treks awesome like that. Warning though, if you buy a used fork that's not g2 you may notice a bit of a difference in how it handles.
When i bought mine I hated the fork after first ride on trails, lbs ordered up replacement mamba forks (xc32 tk) and gave me a huge discount and I haven't looked back. Not air, not the lightest (still almost 2lbs lighter than stock fork) but couldn't be happier.

Its a 2012 marlin, the fork blows. lol. You my buddy has the mamba and its fork is much better, plus you do not have to get off of it to unlock the fork as you do with the momba. (lbs ordered up replacement mamba forks ) who or what is lbs. i know it means pounds but didnt know if you were reffering to a shop. plus Ive been looking at reba forks, do you know how they would be on the marin.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
It a 2012 marlin and yes the mamba fork is better plus you dont have to get off your bike to lock it out. Ive been looking at reba forks and was wondering how that would do with the G2 frame? any ideas?
Just get a G2 Reba. Whatever you get, stick with g2. There are plenty of used forks out there
ANYTHING can be fixed...how badly do you want it?
Just curious, but do only Trek shops have access to new G2 forks?
I've seen some through QBP, although in very limited numbers.

What is QBP? Sorry new to the forum.
thanks. bought a fox F29 rl g2 fork for my bike. Hope its the right choice. Ive herd its comparable to the reba rl and my bike is a G2 frame
What did that set u back? Planning a fork upgrade in the future from my xc32.

I picked them up for 300 off pinkbike.com, but finding a decent deal for a G2 fork (51mm offset) is pretty hard
.
I'm still trying to sort out what the few mm offset really does for the bike. Supposed to matter on handling but how much can it matter?

G2 frames have a head angle somewhere around 69°. A non-G2 frame will have a head angle ~71°. The higher the head angle, the faster the steering. This makes the G2 frames inherently slower/floppier handling. They correct this by increasing the fork offset which increases the trail and makes the handling faster and less floppy. Another added benefit is that toe overlap becomes less of an issue.
Also, the wheelbase gets extended and rider weight moves more towards the rear. Depending on your type of riding this could be an advantage or disadvantage.
Well thank u a useful explaination behind that. Didn't realize a small difference in that could make that much of a difference but it can. Learn something new every day.

lol that was the best deffinition behind the G2 frame Ive herd, thanks.
Correction: More offset decreases trail, as seen in the following pic.
Alright. Here's the deal. You can pick at any one thing that g2 does, but the machine is the SUM of its parts. Slackened head angle which gives you better high speed control, increased offset to reign the slow speed handling back in. The head angle works IN CONJUNCTION WITH the G2 51mm offset. Watch http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=PVpZ3...%3DPVpZ3rYU3e4. It's a few years old but does a great job of explaining G2
