    Cool Copper Habor, MI 2013

I have had a lot of interest in this trip so far this year so I figured its time for some details. The official trip is from August 30-September 2. Labor Day weekend. The plan is to leave early Friday morning. How early you ask? 7am would be my suggestion it is a 10 1/2 hr trip and you lose an hour because of a time change.
What is there to do? Check out the event schedule, to much to post. Keep in mind you do not have to pay to race in order to take advantage of the shenanigans. http://www.copperharbortrails.org/be...or-trails-fest

Cost for these shanagans? Well that's kinda tough but I'll try.
    Gas could be around $75.00
    XC race = $65.05 online
    Camping is $2.50 per night
You can figure your own food and beverage cost.
Other than a little spending cash for going out to eat and a stop or two at the brewery, that's about it.

Now to throw some confusion into this plan. I will be leave Thursday afternoon (August 29) and drive to Watersmeet and staying at the casino that night. Finish the drive to Copper early Friday morning and stake claim on a camp site for every one. Last year space got limited real quick.
On Monday instead of heading home I'm going to make my way to Marquette, Mi for a couple days of riding before heading home Wednesday/Thursday.
Additional cost here will go up a bit. I don't have a amount yet but figure a couple nights in a Holiday Inn and eating out most meals. I'll post more on this the closer we get.

So far the list includes about 21 of us. You won't be alone.
You'd understand if you know what I was talking about.

I was hoping this was going to be a week long trip. Anyone else looking to spend more time up north?

We're good on camping. Couple of us are going up early to stake claim on a site. We're in a area that is there group camping.

Oh boy oh boy we are getting close. They are not capping the XC race this year like they have previously stated. There will be different start times for the 17mile and 27mile races.

We are about a month out. I would like to get a head count on who's going and when they are leavening. This is going to tell me how much space to save for tents and who is going on the Marquette for hotel reservations.

So every one knows my plan: Leave the QC Thursday Aug. 19 probably by 7am. Leaving Copper Harbor Monday morning hoping to ride Michigan Tech (it has alluded me for 3 years now). Make my way to Marquette, MI until Thursday when I plan on heading home.

My rough count is around 25 FORC'ers.

I'm in for sure, not sure which days. I'm probably in for Friday to Monday. Drew's gonna ride with me. We need to work out the days.

Well it looks like this trip is really shaping up. Last count, 24 to Copper and 11 on to Marquette. Still have a few on the fence or just havent heard from them in awhile. Most are leaving on Thursday and only a couple leaving Friday.

For those that have never been here are a couple tips that might help you out. You do not want to get gas in Copper Harbor. If you're getting low fill up in Houghton/Hancock (about an hour from Copper). Plan on bringing food. There is no Hy-Vee. Just a small general store. There is a couple of Resturants and of course bars and 1 brewery. Weather will be chilly. Highs will most likely be in the high 60's low 70's. Expect the nights to be in the 40's.

A few of us might be bringing a meal for all. I'll post that up later.

Any questions? Feel free to ask. We're only about 2 weeks away!!!!

Couple other things. They do have awesome showers with hot and cold water and flush toilets. So basically some darn good camping.

Also Richard and I are doing ribs for every one on Friday night. One less meal for you to pack for.

Well I was going to Copper in Rays van but due to an unfortunate set of circumstances that's not happening. So, I was wondering if anyone had room for one more otherwise I will just drive myself.

Trying to plan out meals. Do the restaurants in town serve breakfast? How far are they from the campground?

Nothing is far from the camp ground. But if your planning on eating at the Resturants plan on waiting a long time. There small and can't handle the amount of people that come in for the weekend.

MP & I are bringing enough Sloppy Joes for everyone's dinner on Saturday night. If that sounds good to you, that's another meal you don't need to deal with. Tick tick tick we're getting close. to the bikes!

Ok folks we are only a few short days away from this trip. Here are a few reminders.
We are staying at the Organization Campground at Fort Wilkins State Park. After you roll through Copper Harbor within a mile there will be a right hand turn into that area. It is also Lake Fanny Hoo boat ramp.

If you want to caravan up with me I'm leaving my place at 7am Thursday morning. 1008 W 59 Dport.
