    Default 2024 Illiniwek Trimming Status

The vegetation got a head start this year and is already starting to droop into the trails.

If you have a couple hours to help, pick a section, or more than one ;), on the map below and go to town trimming back vegetation that is encroaching on the trails. We usually trim at least 2 feet to each side of the trail. Leave any trees within this zone obviously. FORC has a handful of trimmers we can loan you. Post below if you need one and we can make arrangements. Once a section is completed, let us know so we can update this thread.

Recommended gear for trimming: Long pants/shirt, sturdy shoes, eye protection, bug head net, bug repellent, water/snack.

    Section | Status
    1 - South Down & Connector | Trimmed
    2 - South Up | Trimmed
    3 - Upper South West | Trimmed
    4 - Upper South East | Trimmed
    5 - Connector & North Climb | Trimmed
    6 - Overlook Loop | Trimmed
    7 - Trimmed
    8 - North Down | Trimmed

I am able to help out on Thursday (5/30). I will need a trimmer though. I can meet you there at approx. 5pm if you are able to supply the trimmer. I can start with the South Up. Let me know. Thanks. -Ty

The field section of #3 is done along with most of #4 I'll finish it this weekend.

I'll meet you there a little after 5pm with a trimmer. Thanks!

Also working on getting a walk behind string trimmer for the field and less sloped trail sections. May have it by next week.

Great, thanks! Looks like just the North side left. Sections #6 & #8 usually get the most growth on that side.

Josh and I can do 6 and 8. Would you be around tomorrow morning that we could pick up a trimmer?

Getting close to fully trimmed. Thanks to all who have helped thus far! The sections that haven't been trimmed yet aren't terribly overgrown, but we'll want to get them soon.
